Our first blog series will cover the project basics – the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How!

We usually ask about the people behind something we first hear about.

“Who founded the United States?” “Who started this company?”

Well, we’d like to start this project by answering the “Who?” behind it as well. 

Regional Planning

My name is Richard Marshalian, and I, along with my colleague David McDonald, and our Supervisor, Susan Tae, are the planners responsible for this amazing project! We are part of the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning, and the Antelope Valley is one of our primary responsibilities in the long range planning division of the department.  However, while we are a very visible part of the project, there are a lot more people involved in making this project possible.

Other County Departments

We will be working with other County Departments, such as Public Works, Public Health, Parks and Recreation, and others. They will be advising and helping craft specific recommendations that will go into the final ordinance, which is the legal language that makes the standards and requirements for communities into law.

Town Councils and Community Groups

Town Councils and Community Groups are key groups that will be involved in this project. They serve as Regional  Planning’s immediate connection to the community and offer us a guidance on what the community wants or doesn’t want to see. They may have specific experience we want to learn from, or be able to give us insights on the needs and desires of a specific portion of the community.
