Sunshine Canyon landfill

Welcome to County Planning’s website for Sunshine Canyon Landfill (SCL). Here you will find information and related documents for the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

SCL is located in both the unincorporated County of Los Angeles and City of Los Angeles, near the communities of Sylmar and Granada Hills. The landfill operates as a joint City/County landfill under a Conditional Use Permit (CUP), Implementation and Monitoring Program (IMP), and Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Summary (MMRS), as well as other state and local entitlements. County Planning responsibilities include overseeing compliance with the terms of the CUP, IMP and MMRS by conducting inspections; responding to complaints; participating in technical and community advisory committee meetings; and coordinating closely with other County departments.
