Historic Preservation Program

“Historic preservation is the process of identifying, protecting, and enhancing building, places, and objects of historical and cultural significance.” – National Trust for Historic Preservation

The County’s Historic Preservation Program (“Program”) is comprised of its:

  • Historic Preservation Ordinance (HPO) which was adopted September 1, 2015, and established criteria and procedures for the nomination, designation and review of work on landmarks and property located within historic districts.

The Program applies only to unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County and to County owned land. For property located within the City of Los Angeles, please contact their Office of Historic Resources.
