2026 ADU Ordinance Amendment

Overview

As California’s housing laws continue to evolve, LA County Planning developed a proposed framework for the 2026 ADU Ordinance Amendment. The draft amendment was designed to clarify the relationship between County policy and State law and to explore options for implementing State-granted authority to limit ADUs on certain subdivided lots, creating a more predictable permitting pathway for unincorporated communities. Community members are invited to review the draft project documents and watch the recording of the May 21 webinar below to understand the policy concepts under consideration.

Draft Evaluation Phase (Updated July 2026)

The materials on this project page represent the proposed draft framework for the 2026 ADU Ordinance Amendment. The project team is currently evaluating the draft concepts and the feedback received during the initial community outreach period. Future timelines for public hearings or formal adoption steps have not yet been scheduled. These materials are provided for public review and informational purposes only; they do not carry the force of law, and existing County and State regulations continue to govern all current ADU projects.
