On November 15, 2018, approximately 3,118 acres of inhabited areas (Plum Canyon, Skyline Ranch, and North Sand Canyon) of unincorporated LA County were annexed to the City of Santa Clarita. The Cruzan Mesa Vernal Pools SEA was entirely within the unincorporated areas of LA County before the annexation. As a result of the annexation, a large portion of the Cruzan Mesa Vernal Pools SEA is now within the City of Santa Clarita.
