Tree Planting Ordinance
Ordinance
On March 29, 2016 the Board of Supervisors adopted the Tree Planting Ordinance that:
- Amended Title 22 (Planning and Zoning) of the Los Angeles County Code (“County Code”) to establish tree planting requirements for new projects; and
- Amended Title 21 (Subdivisions) and Title 22 (Planning and Zoning) of the County Code to repeal drought tolerant landscaping and green building requirements that are now found in Title 31 of the Los Angeles County Code (County Code).
The ordinance became effective on April 28, 2016. The hearing documents for the ordinance are located here.

Parkway/Street Trees
The Tree Planting Requirements do not include requirements for Parkway (street) trees. However, if you are interested in having a parkway tree planted or maintained, please visit the Department of Public Works’ parkway tree website for further information.
