What is Adaptive Capacity?
Adaptive capacity is the ability of a community to respond to, recover from, adapt to climate change hazards, using existing tools, resources, funding, and programs. Adaptive capacity reflects the existing strengths of the community in meeting climate challenges. It is important to take stock of what capabilities are already in place in determining the level of risk a community faces vis-à-vis a climate hazard.
What is the purpose of the Adaptive Capacity Assessment (ACA)?
The ACA will help Regional Planning to understand how ready communities are to respond to and adjust to climate change. The ability of a community to withstand, recover, and learn from past climate impacts is assessed based on the input provided by community members. Information from the ACA will help to strengthen future response and recovery efforts.
