Reasonable Accommodations

The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning is currently developing fair housing guidelines, in accordance with State and Federal law. The Reasonable Accommodations Ordinance will allow persons with disabilities to request exemptions from zoning laws and building standards, to ensure equal access to housing opportunities. This ordinance will impact the disabled community of the unincorporated area by providing a clear and streamlined procedure to circumvent permitting processes and development standards, when those processes and standards impede fair and equal housing access.

Outreach

To facilitate the development of the Reasonable Accommodations ordinance, the Department of Regional Planning is hosting a series of focus group discussions with affected individuals and interested groups. There will be multiple opportunities to participate as the ordinance develops. More information on upcoming events will be posted here as it becomes available.

The ordinance is anticipated to be completed by early/mid 2009. For more information on this ordinance, please contact Gretchen Siemers of the Housing Section gsiemers@planning.lacounty.gov or (213) 974-6417.
