Event Summary / Additional Information
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is the use of spatial or locational data to improve decision-making. GIS Day is part of National Geographics' Geography Awareness Week and falls on November 18 this year. If you've dealt much with Regional Planning, you know that we do a great deal with maps and GIS. Perhaps you've visited our Maps & GIS page to use our online mapping applications, make your own maps, download a map from our map catalog or even download GIS data for your own application. We also make extensive use of GIS internally to support our planners in their current and advanced planning and enforcement activities. We'd like you to know more about it.
Regional Planning, close to 20 other County agencies and some of the other groups we work with would like to show you how we use GIS to deliver our services more effectively and make life better for County residents. Come to our free event at the Civic Center Mall on November 20 to find out more. Our open house is scheduled from 9:30 to 3:30 and we guarantee there will be something there to grab your attention. We'll have booths, GIS-equipped emergency response vehicles, a large display of maps, an opportunity to win a prize at our fun GIS game and a series of short presentations about GIS.
