Tree Planting Ordinance

On March 29, 2016 the Board of Supervisors adopted the Tree Planting Ordinance that:

  • Amended Title 22 (Planning and Zoning) of the Los Angeles County Code (“County Code”) to establish tree planting requirements for new projects; and
  • Amended Title 21 (Subdivisions) and Title 22 (Planning and Zoning) of the County Code to repeal drought tolerant landscaping and green building requirements that are now found in Title 31.

The ordinance became effective on April 28, 2016. A copy of the adopted ordinance will be posted on this webpage when it is available.

Parkway Trees
Parkway (street) trees are not subject to the Tree Planting Ordinance. However, if you are interested in having a parkway tree planted or maintained, please visit the Department of Public Works’ parkway tree website for further information.
