Oil Well Ordinance

Latest News
Thank you for submitting comments. The project team is revising the draft ordinance.

On March 29, 2016, the Board of Supervisors instructed the Department of Regional Planning to amend Title 22, the Planning and Zoning Code for unincorporated Los Angeles County, in order to ensure that oil and gas facilities may no longer operate by right in the unincorporated portions of the County, and ensure that the regulations reflect best practices and current mitigation methods and technologies, minimize environmental impacts and protect sensitive uses and populations.

This project will impact uses in unincorporated Los Angeles County only. This project will not impact oil and gas well drilling and operations within the unincorporated portion of the Inglewood Oil Field, which is operating under the Baldwin Hills Community Standards District and the Newhall Ranch Specific Plan, which requires a Conditional Use Permit for new oil wells.
