Pictometry Sensor - Plane Visit, Van Nuys Airport, 04/09/2008

Similar to two years ago, we were invited to see one of the planes and its camera system being utilized to capture imagery for LAR-IAC2.

We met pilot Daniel Walker at Pentastar Aviation, Van Nuys Airport, on Wednesday, April 9, 2008.  Mr. Walker showed us the twin-engine Piper Aztec pictured below – this is one of several planes capturing imagery for the County.

The planes are owned and operated by aerial imagery providers who work solely for Pictometry.  The flight planning, capture methodology, and camera sensor system (not allowed to be photographed) are among the key elements of Pictometry's innovative products and services.

Mr. Walker informed us that he needed less than one day of flying to finish his work, after spending nearly two months working in our region.  He finished his work the following day and flew on to his next assignment.

Once again, it was a valuable experience to see the patented Pictometry camera sensor and meet one of the pilots.  Pictometry's sensors and contracted planes are essential for capturing and delivering the County’s large digital aerial imagery dataset.
